This looks absolutely delightful.
I’ve always loved Billy Crystal movies. I mean, how can you not? When Harry Met Sally, City Slickers – they’re always films that I laugh and cry at and those are the BEST. There’s a great write-up on this upcoming film right here. In it, Billy Crystal talks a bit about how dumb our culture is right now (my words, not his). He says, about comedy, “It’s becoming a minefield and I get it. I don’t like it, I understand it … I just keep doing what I’m doing and that’s all you can do right now. It’s a totally different world [now] and it doesn’t mean you have to like it.”
Anyway, this film is about an old comedy writer (his character, obvs), who is battling dementia. He meets a young black woman (played by Tiffany Haddish), and they develop an adorable friendship. It looks like EXACTLY the kind of movie we all could use right now – one that’s sweet, non-violent, hopeful, and that shows an example of people of different races caring for one another. That shouldn’t be an anomaly, because it’s NOT an anomaly in Actual Life. The media, and disgusting groups like BLM want you to believe it is – that white people hate black people, and that all white people are racist a-holes. But normal everyday people know that’s not the case. We are friends with and love our black sisters and brothers, and they are friends with and love us right back. That’s Real Life. And that’s what this movie shows, instead of the bullsh*t narrative being fed to us by racebaiting idiots.
Anyway, I’m really stoked to see this. You?
