Paraglider Arrested for Dropping Toy Soldiers to Children on 9/11

There are a lot of reasons to get arrested—but dropping patriotic toys to children shouldn’t be one of them.

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — An Indiana man has been arrested after police say he dropped toy soldiers from the sky during a Dan + Shay concert in Noblesville while flying in a paraglider on the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

Jon Carnahan of Alexandria was arrested on Friday, Sept. 11, after the incident at Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville. This came after a paraglider was seen flying at a low altitude over the concert venue and other surrounding areas in Noblesville.

Carnahan is charged with Dropping Objects from an Aircraft in Flight in Hamilton County, a Class B misdemeanor. He shared video of his paraglider exploits with FOX59/CBS4, including footage of officers explaining to a handcuffed Carnahan that his stunt was against the law.

Hamilton County sheriff’s deputies were called around 6:30 p.m. last Friday to the music venue after the paraglider was seen dropping objects on fans attending the Dan + Shay show. The objects were later found to be small plastic toys with parachutes attached.

But seriously, am I crazy, or does this seem extremely excessive? Some toy army men and happy kids don’t seem like a valid reason to throw a man in the clinker.

Journalist Max Lewis reports:

In a press release, the sheriff’s office said Carnahan’s flight also delayed a medical helicopter landing at a nearby hospital. However, that is not mentioned in the court filings and Carnahan said he was in public airspace.

He pays taxes. If it was public airspace, go ham, dude.

I think we are seeing a prime example of the Fun Police going a little harder than they should have. I love our men and women in uniform, but sometimes a good talking to and a slap on the wrist will suffice.
