Houston Public Library Allows Child Sex Offender To Read To Kids During ‘Drag Queen Story Time’

We’ve written about these ‘Drag story times’ before. They’ve been around for a while now. And here’s the thing… I don’t even take issue with drag queens. In fact – I find drag entertaining and rather impressive, in some cases. Adults have every right to watch and participate in drag shows IF THEY SO CHOOSE. The keyword, of course, being ADULTS. I think this is, without question, ADULT entertainment.

I mean…

He reads a story called “Worm Loves Worm.” Yes. Really.

Drag shows, and drag itself, are often VERY sexual in nature and content, and I simply don’t understand why people feel the need to involve children. Would you have a bunch of burlesque dancers speak to children in full costume? (Full costume is a generous way to describe what they wear.)

Anyway… people have been concerned about these “drag story times” for a while.

What EXACTLY are you exposing kids to?

Well, in one library’s case, they’re exposing children to AN ACTUAL SEX OFFENDER.

Houston… we have a problem.

According to Daily Caller:

Houston Public Library banned a man who had been previously charged for sexually assaulting a child from reading to children at Drag Queen Storytime ever again.

Oh, for CRYING OUT LOUD.

They just figured because it was a DRAG QUEEN everything was glitter and rainbows and they shouldn’t background check this volunteer before spending time with CHILDREN?

REALLY?

The library apologized after not completing a background check on Albert Alfonso Garza, 32, who was last known to be reading to kids at the Montrose Library in September 2018, reported ABC 13 Friday.

What’s worse?

His sex crime involves a CHILD.

Garza was charged with child sexual assault involving a victim records show was under the age of 14 in 2008.

The library blamed the failure to complete a background check on a volunteer.

The storytimes are supervised by staff, the library said, according to ABC 13.

Oh. A staff member was there! Well, that just makes everything ok then, doesn’t it?

(No – it does not.)

Houston Public Library issued the following statement:

We were made aware today that one participant for Drag Queen storytime who read at the September 29, 2018, Drag Queen Storytime has a criminal background that should have prevented him from participating in the program.

A ‘criminal history.’ Way to bury the story here, folks.

We assure you that this participant will not be involved in any future HPL programs.

In our review of our process and of this participant, we discovered that we failed to complete a background check as required by our own guidelines. We deeply regret this oversight and the concern this may cause our customers. We realize this is a serious matter.

You don’t SAY.

Every program sponsored by HPL is supervised by HPL staff, and all children are accompanied by a parent and/or guardian. No participant is ever alone with children, and we have not received any complaints about any inappropriate behavior by participants at storytimes.

This IN NO WAY excuses how recklessly STUPID this was.

We are taking the appropriate action to ensure that the status of every participant in every program throughout our system is verified. We will continue to review our process to ensure that this cannot happen again.

Once again, we apologize for our failure to adhere to our own process in this matter and to the hundreds of parents and caregivers who have enjoyed this program with their children.

This was such a BS statement. Basically “sure, we let a child sex predator spend time with your kids, but everyone LOVED the program, and the kids weren’t alone with him, so it’s really not the end of the world.”

Why exactly did the library choose to violate their OWN policies?

Could it be that someone got SLOPPY?

Or that someone thought the WOKENESS of this program was more important than ensuring children’s safety?
