President Trump is currently on a big European trip and kicked off the day with a meeting with NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg in Brussels.
Because we live in world completely dominated by soundbites, members of MSM latched onto one of the lines Trump dropped.
“Germany is totally controlled by Russia…”
“Germany is totally controlled by Russia” says @realDonaldTrump “captive” to Russia as NATO summit opens on unprecedented angry exchange

According to the Daily Beast, Trump is exaggerating.
Trump tells NATO that Germany is "totally controlled" by Russia, citing wrong statistics about how much energy the country receives from Putin https://t.co/3Jqhuy1r0l
— The Daily Beast (@thedailybeast) July 11, 2018
Trump suggested 70% of Germany’s gas imports were Russian but the latest official figure was actually 50.75%, according to the BBC. “Ultimately Germany will have almost 70% of their country controlled by Russia with natural gas, so you tell me—is that appropriate?” he asked at Wednesday’s breakfast meeting. “Germany is totally controlled by Russia because they will be getting from 60 to 70% of their energy from Russia, and a new pipeline, and you tell me if that’s appropriate because I think it’s not and I think it’s a very bad thing for NATO.”
Except not, because the BBC article actually states:
EU figures suggest Russia is responsible for between 50% and 75% of Germany’s gas imports, but gas makes up less than 20% of Germany’s energy mix for power production.
But never mind that! Let the #FakeNews commence!
And we're off. Within minutes of his first event of the day, President Trump is going off about defense spending, singling out Germany and claiming they are totally controlled by Russia. John Kelly looks around the room and takes a long drink of water.

I’m disappointed by Kaitlan’s coverage. I actually interned with her at the Daily Caller a few years ago. We weren’t friends or anything, but she was nice. Back then, she wrote mostly about trashy entertainment stuff. But now she works for CNN, and I guess this is what it does to you.
ANYWAY, these are Trump’s FULL remarks.

Uh…where was John Kelly’s “long drink of water”? I didn’t see it.
#FakeNews gonna #Fake.
