You guys, the councilpeople in Eugene, Oregon SUCK.
According the video above and this link, the city council has voted down a proposal to say the Pledge of Allegiance before council meetings, because of the most outlandish reasons you can imagine. I'm almost embarrassed to TYPE THEM they are so ridiculous.
According to one councilwoman, Betty Taylor, saying the Pledge is the equivalent of asking members to recite the Communist Manifesto. Councilman George Brown said, "People can say it in their front yard or backyard. It really doesn't help move the city business forward. It does not unite us." OMG. The Communist Manifesto. These people are INSANE.
The pledge to our flag is apparently really divisive to these lunatics, as well as some of the Eugene residents. As resident Anita Sullivan stated, "So you say I pledge allegiance and right there I don't care for that language. It sort of means loyalty to your country; well, I feel loyalty to the entire world."
Instead of saying all of the obscene and offensive things I'd LIKE to say in response to that, I'll just say, "WHIZZUH WHUZZAH?!!?!?!" Where do you LIVE, Anita? What country allows you the freedom to say completely stupid stuff like that in the first place? Which country do our military personnel DIE FOR on a regular basis, so that you can continue to be a total moron without consequence?
I want to PUNCH THAT IDIOT in the face.
After what should have been the easiest and most obvious "yes" vote in the world, the Eugene council decided to compromise and only recite the Pledge four times a year, at meetings closest to holidays that are considered patriotic (Independence Day, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and Flag Day.) So, they'll take DAYS OFF funded by taxpayers to enjoy the very holidays that they apparently can barely stand to honor. Nice.
The reasonable and rational councilman who introduced this proposal said that he only wanted to UNITE the council and demonstrate to the fewconservative constituents in Eugene that some traditions are worth preserving, even in a city that is supposedly all about diversity. He said, "It's a little ironic to see those who have championed the idea of tolerance be less tolerant on this question." In fact, his proposal suggested the pledge recital would be strictly voluntary by both the public and councilmembers, but even that wasn't ok with clowns like George Brown and Betty Taylor, who even voted against saying the Pledge during the four holidays mentioned above.
I have a serious problem with people who refuse to recite the Pledge. If it's a God thing, then just skip that part. But why not have allegiance to YOUR OWN FREAKING COUNTRY, which provides the freedom for you to be a total jerk?
GAWD.
