Illinois Legislature Introduce Bill Addressing Absolutely Nothing But Pronouns In Child Welfare, Juvie Legal System

What an incredible and productive use of legislative power this is. The Illinois state legislature has introduced HB1596. The bill addresses absolutely nothing at all but pronouns in the state’s child welfare and juvie legal system. Specifically, the bill “amends various Acts concerning children by: replacing certain pronouns with the nouns to which the pronouns refer; replacing certain instances of the word “biological”; changing the Independent Juvenile Ombudsman to the Independent Juvenile Ombudsperson; deleting certain obsolete language; and making technical and other changes . Effective 60 days after becoming law.”

Ah, yes. Because removing the word “biological” and eliminating binary pronouns from all the official language used in the child welfare and juvenile legal system is exactly what is going to substantively improve the lives of Illinoisans. They’re clearly focusing on the things that actually matter to the hardworking citizens, right? Because who cares about all the real issues when you can squabble about pronouns?
