San Fran Wants To Give $5M In Reparations To Qualifying Black Constituents. But With Whose Money?

This is one of the most idiotic things I’ve ever heard proposed in my entire life, and I’m not at all surprised that it’s coming out of the squalid hellhole that is Gavin Newsom’s and Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco, California. If you haven’t been to San Fran recently, let me just tell you that it’s worse than you can even really imagine. Parts of it are as bad as any 3rd world country, with garbage piled high, dirty drug needles and feces strewn everywhere on the sidewalk and streets. Disgusting homeless camps are set up everywhere, often hindering business and normal city life. Crime, both petty and violent, are out of control. You can’t park anywhere without worrying that your car will be damaged when you return. You can’t walk anywhere without being worried that you might be assaulted along the way. Businesses are fleeing the city because it’s literally not worth it to live or work there. But there are still some ritzy areas, where the wealthy live somewhat separated from the squalid masses, usually with private fences and security.

So, as the city crumbles to disgusting ruins around them San Francisco leadership have decided they want to give $5 million dollars to every single black person in their city as “reparations” for slavery. Doesn’t matter that they weren’t slaves. Doesn’t matter that their white neighbors weren’t slave owners. Doesn’t matter that California didn’t have slavery. Doesn’t matter that Asians were historically treated far worse in California. Because these days, everything is about a specific race and victimhood narrative. So I ask a crucial question– WITH WHOSE MONEY?

Who will be footing the bill for $5 million dollars for every black person? The taxpayers? The same taxpayers who pay exorbitant taxes to live in a squalid hellhole where they can barely live and work? Is that who would be footing this bill? Why would any taxpayer stick around and continue to pay taxes to a system that gives certain people $5 million dollars from the money that’s supposed to be used to improve their disgusting city? And if they leave, who will be left to foot the bill for the reparations? What’s to keep greedy people from migrating to San Fran hoping for a handout on someone else’s dime? Who qualifies to get that $5M, how are those qualifications determined, who ultimately decides whether a person qualifies, and how far might someone go to make people believe they meet those qualifications?

They don’t have any good answers. They just want people to focus on how great this would be if it happened. But it actually wouldn’t be all that great. Have you heard stories of people who come into significant money suddenly and with little financial literacy or work ethic to support the wealth? It doesn’t end well. They end up spending way beyond their means, getting in over their head until the money runs out and the are left with mortgages, car/boat/etc. payments, and other lifestyle luxuries that they can no longer afford. The military has programs specifically for helping young soldiers who get big bonuses understand their financial limits, as do major sports organizations like the NFL, where players often come into a significant amount of money all at once.

Not to mention what effect something like this would have on the local economy and value of the dollar in San Francisco. If everyone as $5M burning a hole in their pockets, prices for everything WILL go up. That $5M will not stretch as far as people think, which won’t help with the issues I explained in the previous paragraph.

This is one of those ideas that sounds nice if you literally don’t think about it at all. Like a bunch of drunk college kids spitballing ideas that would never actually work in a 5 million years, but they’re just saying whatever pops into their brain. It’s absurd and not the least bit feasible, and it would ultimately be very bad for both San Francisco and its citizens.
