NY AG Hosting Drag Queen Event With Elected Officials For Kids Highlights Necessity Of State Power Over Federal Power

This is one of those times where the real story is much more profound that what one might gather from a superficial glance at a headline. The New York Attorney General Latitia James is hosting a “Drag Story Hour,” inviting “families with children” to join herself and “city and state elected leaders” to listen to “Drag storytellers.”

When I read this, I’m disgusted. I would hate for my tax dollars to be used to fund this kind of despicable and degenerate activity, and I would hate to know that my elected officials are wasting their time on this garbage. But in New York, there are a lot of taxpayers who fully support this kind of activity. They are probably happy to know that their tax dollars are being used for something they support, even if it isn’t specifically benefitting them in their city.

And that’s the real issue here–empowering states while shrinking federal government power rather than centralizing power at the federal level. We need to return the power to the people in the states. I certainly don’t want the federal government imposing New York’s disgusting agendas and priorities on me in whatever conservative state we eventually settle. If the people in New York are fine with this kind of thing, then that’s on them. But I don’t want the kind of people who would be fine with this influencing what happens in my conservative state. That’s why overturning Roe vs. Wade was the correct position for the SCOTUS to take because it returned the power over the issue to the states. Each state should be allowed to decide how they address the abortion issue based on how the state’s constituents feel about it. A state like New York can support taxpayer-funded drag events for children or legalize abortion if that’s what the constituents want. But what they want shouldn’t influence what happens in other states where people feel very differently.
