The Left LOVES to claim that conservatives are “banning books” about LGBTQ. But let’s set the record straight. Just because a teacher, school, school board, or even a state decide not to shelve a particular book in a particular place does NOT mean that book is “banned.” To be clear, the books in question are extremely graphic and sexually explicit, and very often completely inappropriate for the age groups who end up having access to them, which is why some people have decided not to shelve them in those places where their inclusion might be inappropriate, like elementary or even middle school libraries or classrooms.
But if you’d like your child to have access to these books, you can have them in your hand with the click of a button and same day shipping from Amazon, or by visiting any major book retailer, or even by requesting the books for free through your local library. Which means these books ARE NOT BANNED. If you can easily obtain these books through numerous perfectly legal and convenient avenues, and your are more than welcomed to do so, then they are not banned.
But calling them “banned” makes for much more sensational political and social propaganda, so the Left continues to insist that it’s inappropriate for adults to make reasonable judgements about the availability of these books in certain places. After listening to Senator Kennedy read literal porn straight out of these books (just two of a number of similar ones), you tell me what’s inappropriate. Also, I’d like to take a moment to appreciate Senator Kennedy for very often being willing to say the things that make people uncomfortable and force them to acknowledge the reality of certain situations. I think we need more of it.
Sen. Kennedy reads passages from pornographic books during a senate hearing and the Illinois Secretary of State, who is there to defend a law that stops parents from being able to contest them in school libraries, says he is “disturbed.”
