Vermont Girls’ Basketball Team Forfeits Tournament Spot Due To Trans Player On Opposing Team

The girls’ basketball team for the Mid Vermont Christian School forfeited a game and their place in the when they withdrew entirely from the state’s Division 4 basketball tournament rather than play against a team with a transgender player on the roster. These girls made this sacrifice for women and girls everywhere. They did it to send a message about the erasure of women and girls, not only from sports, but from society at large. The head of the school, Vicky Fogg, told local news,

“We believe playing against an opponent with a biological male jeopardizes the fairness of the game and the safety of our players. Allowing biological males to participate in women’s sports sets a bad precedent for the future of women’s sports in general.”

She is absolutely correct. It is simultaneously a social issues, a sports issue, and a safety issue. Socially, allowing men into women-only spaces erases women, along with their value and place in society. Regarding sports, it sets a bad competitive precedent to allow one person who has a male body with a distinct and undeniable physical advantage to compete against female athletes on what is supposed to be a reasonably level playing field. As far as safety, it is a legitimate concern across all sports to have biological males competing physically against biological females. That’s why the World Boxing Council, which bowed to the mob and added a “Trans” category for competition, still requires athletes to compete against opponents who match their biological sex. Because biology matters. Male and female bodies are distinctly different and have different capabilities. It doesn’t mean one is in any way inferior to the other, just that they are undeniably different. Kudos to these Vermont girls.
