DeSantis Signs Bill Ending Disney’s Self-Governing Status

Disney has been a self-governing entity since the 60s. But, “There is a new sheriff in town,” and his name is Ron DeSantis. DeSantis announced months ago that he planned on stripping Disney of this special status. Today it finally happened. People have criticized this decision stating that it would increase the local taxes. However, according to DeSantis himself, it will only help. Disney hasn’t been paying their fair share of taxes for years, and now they are subject to the same rules as everyone else. Since Disney hasn’t been paying the correct amount in taxes since the 60s, he says that taxes could even get lower for Florida residents.

Another thing the haters aren’t addressing is the fact that there are several other theme parks in Florida, Sea World, Busch Gardens, and Disney’s biggest competitor, Universal. None of these other parks have the special status that Disney has. None of them are as woke either. So there’s that. But if they can survive without all the special treatment, Disney should be just fine.

I was a Disney pass holder for years but their Covid policies and wokeness drove me to get rid of my pass. I still love the old school Disney, I always will. Don’t come at me. It’s nostalgic and I love it. But they have gone too far with the wokeness, and I for one am happy there are consequences for their actions. When you start grooming children, I am not here for that. They deserve to have this status stripped. And if it’s going to lower my taxes as a Florida resident, I’m not mad at that either.
