House Of Reps To Fund Peloton All-Access Memberships For Staffers, Capitol Police Officers

Apparently, while Americans can barely afford to buy groceries and gas, and are struggling to even feed their babies, the people elected to represent us thought it was a great idea to spend taxpayer dollars (which we don’t have because they’ve been overspending for years) on Peloton All Access and App memberships for DC staffers and Capitol Police officers. Because nothing says “we value the American people” like needlessly spending more of their money on entirely frivolous perks. I’m sorry, but now is not the time. Appearances matter, and this gives the appearance that they literally hate us.

$10,000 upfront + $10/month/officer or staffer who takes advantage of service.
10,000 staffers, 2,300 Capitol Police officers = potentially $123,000 tax dollars/month.

Kyle Morris with Fox Business said they obtained an email draft from the office of the Chief Administrative Officer which said that this “premier employee benefit” would be available to staffers and all Capitol Police through the House Center for Well-Being. The House of Representatives currently has an estimated 10,000 staffers while the Capitol Police have an estimated 2,300 officers. This means that 12,300 employees will be eligible for this provided access to memberships to both Peloton All-Access and the Peloton App.

According to the email, staffers and officers who take advantage of the membership would “have access to thousands of live and on-demand classes, across multiple disciplines, that are available for streaming across multiple devices and require no purchase of Peloton equipment.”

So what will be the cost to the American taxpayers for staffers and officers to have access to one of the latest and greatest fitness programs? Apparently, the contract with Peloton includes a $10,00 initial payment plus $10 per month per staffer or officer who takes advantage of the memberships. Yeah, I get it, some won’t take advantage. But the math says that this could potentially cost taxpayers $123,000 PER MONTH.

Now, compared to $40B spent on a proxy war to support a non-NATO ally, or $1.9T spent on various slush funds, money laundering schemes, and pet projects, $123,000 per month really isn’t much. But it’s the appearance and the principle of the thing. Hardworking American families are struggling every single day to make ends meet, and our “representatives” think it’s a good idea to spend  the money of those American families on a fancy fitness membership which most of these hardworking American families could never afford? I’m sorry, but this should not be happening. Not ever, but especially not right now. I’m also morbidly curious how many politicians purchased stock in Peloton prior to this news, and who might make a little money if this announcement gives the stock a little bump. That’s how these people get so wealthy on civil servant salaries.
