The AP Epically Misunderstands “Freedom Of Speech,” Accuses Musk Of “Contradiction”

Of all the organizations that should surely understand the concept of freedom of speech, the Associated Press should definitely be one, right? Wrong, apparently. The AP just wrote an article titled “Elon Musk, an erratic visionary, revels in contradiction.” What’s his contradiction, you ask? Well the AP themselves explain to you the contradictions in which the “erratic visionary” Elon Musk apparently revels.

“Elon Musk boasts that he’s acquiring Twitter to defend freedom of speech. But he has long used the platform to attack those who disagree with him.”

Wait, so… he exercises freedom of speech? That’s the contradiction? That’s it? Let me rewrite for you what the AP was really saying: “Elon Musk boasts that he’s acquiring Twitter to defend freedom of speech. But he has long used the platform to exercise his freedom of speech, which makes him an erratic visionary who revels in contradiction.”

You see, when the AP says he “used the platform to attack those who disagree with him,” when they actually meant is that he has used the platform to engage in dialogue, discourse, and the free exchange of ideas with which some people disagree, as is the nature of dialogue, discourse, and the free exchange of ideas on a platform with millions of people who have widely differing views. But that’s how partisan propagandists frame dialogue, discourse, and the free exchange of ideas that they don’t like. They frame it as an “attack.” Suddenly he’s not simply discussing and disagreeing, he’s attacking.

Basically, today marks the day that the Associated Press published perhaps the most telling article to date revealing exactly how little they understand about freedom of speech, or how little respect they have for the real intent of the concept.
