Mock and I are both Mamas – I have two girls and a boy, and Mock has two boys. My youngest is still in the house – she’s 12. She’s an athlete, much like her older siblings, and we’re used to early mornings, late nights, lots of travel and craziness in our house to accommodate a middle schooler (and athlete’s) schedule. My husband and I have been doing this for almost two decades now – I honestly can’t remember life before kiddos.
I feel blessed to play all the roles I play in life – and I honor those roles, but being a Mom is my absolute favorite. I have days when I wonder, “am I doing a good job?” Then I look at my kids. They’re all brilliant and miraculously amazing in their own, unique ways. They’re all independent, empathetic, critical thinkers, and each one of them knows they’re loved and they know how to love others. And for all of that – I’m beyond grateful. Being a Mom has been my best gig in life. It’s made me stronger, more grounded in myself and in my faith, and really made me understand what real joy looks like.
Children truly are a gift from God.
I post this ad on my Facebook page every year – not so much because it’s about athletics (although it does hit home a little because of that) – but because it’s about so much more. Allowing our kids to fall – to fail – has been one of the reasons they have become the people they are. We’re old-school that way. Or just old, maybe. I don’t know. But I love the message in this, and I will continue to love it until the progressives have it removed for being non-binary-inclusive or some other bullcrap:
I just love this whole campaign, really. Not going to lie. There are others:
And this one, too:
I hope all of you Mamas, step-mamas, and bonus moms out there have a wonderful weekend. I hope you’re honored as you should be.
Happy Mother’s Day (early), y’all. Much love to you. And hug ’em tight!
