Internal Emails Show Facebook To Allow Certain Calls For Violence, Death

According to Reuters, Meta Platforms has decided to allow users on Facebook and Instagram in some countries to

“call for violence against Russians and Russian soldiers in the context of the Ukraine invasion, according to internal emails seen by Reuters Tuesday, in a temporary change to its hate speech policy.”

How progressive of them.

Facebook- No death threats or calls for violence allowed on the platform.

Also Facebook- Unless you’re Lindsey Graham calling for the assassination of Putin.

Also Facebook- In fact, we’re just going to relax the rules on this one and let people call for violence against Russians and the death of Putin. But only against Russians and Putin, because this is a cause we believe is for the greater good.

Please tell me people see how dangerous and hypocritical this is?

Believe me, I know Putin’s a terrible, despicable, dangerous guy who has done and continues to do terrible things. But now Facebook is admittedly exempting rules for certain causes they champion? Because there’s a very long list of terrible, despicable, dangerous people who have done and continue to do terrible things, and we aren’t allowed to call for violence or for their death. Xi Jinping, anyone? Genocide, among so much else? I doubt Meta is jumping to bend the rules in that scenario.

But maybe next time they bend the rules and allow calls for violence and the death of a politician here in the states? Perhaps a presidential candidate who passes bills some call dangerous and discriminatory? Perhaps a cop involved in a highly publicized case that some say is dangerous to society? Perhaps an unpopular prime time talk show host who some believe is dangerous and extremist?

See how this works? They’ve always been partisan in their manipulation of information through algorithms and rule enforcement, but they’ve always pretended they weren’t. Now they aren’t pretending anymore. They’re just straight up admitting that they’ll pick and choose who has to follow what rules based on how Facebook feels about the narrative and ideologies involved.
