Kamala Harris Praises BLM Protests, Twitter Reacts

OPINION | This article contains political commentary which reflects the author's opinion.

We’ve spent a lot of time talking about how Joe Biden clearly has no idea where he is in either time or space. While it is amusing and accurate to point out, we can’t let it distract us from an ever more obvious reality: This isn’t a Joe thing. This is a Biden-Harris thing.

Poor Kamala still thinks it’s the early 90’s (you know, when the 55 year old was smokin’ doobies in college), and evidently she’s bouncing between this timeline and one where BLM is doing a great job for the advancement of black rights.

In an hour-long interview as part of the NAACP conference (which I won’t watch, you can’t make me, I won’t do it), Harris said of the past few months’ racially motivated riots peaceful protests,

‘Nothing that we have achieved that has been about progress, in particular around civil rights, has come without a fight, and so I always am going to interpret these protests as an essential component of evolution in our country –  as an essential component or mark of a real democracy.

You know, the same protests that resulted in the shooting of two Louisville police officers. So brave and beautiful. So peaceful.

Except actually WHAT THE F*CK KAMALA?!

Public reaction to this insanity was swift and condemning, as Twitter tends to be.

Let me answer your question, Mr. Fossil: No. There isn’t. Harris went on,

‘The people’s voices must be heard, and it is often the people who must speak to get their government to do what it is supposed to do, but may not do naturally unless the people speak loudly – and obviously peacefully.’

Okay. . . So. . . I’m confused. Are these protests good or aren’t they? If it’s “obviously” important to be peaceful, these riots are not essential. They’re the opposite of essential. “Detrimental” is the word I’d go with.

‘I actually believe that Black Lives Matter has been the most significant agent for change within the criminal justice system,’ she said.

Riiiiiiiiiiight, the change necessitated by Harris’s own ass-backwards and at times cruel policy as California’s Attorney General. The change that President Trump addressed with the FIRST STEP Act and that Rand Paul is working on fixing with the Justice for Breonna Taylor Act. RAND PAUL! Not you, Kamala, RAND BLESS-THE-NOODLE-HAIRED-MAN PAUL!!!!

‘I think, a community and the country speaking out, understanding that nothing that we have achieved that has been about progress in this country has come without a fight. Nothing that we have achieved in our country that has been about progress, and in particular around civil rights has come without a fight.’

I think the community and country of the U.S. is speaking out to you, Kamala, and their message is “Shut up and go away.”
