We are a big black bean family. We have them nearly every night at dinner. All of my kids LOVE them. And we are partial to Bush’s black beans.
No more!
After reading about the courage and guts that CEO Robert Unanue of Goya has, we are making the switch.
Cancel culture is trying to cancel Goya simply because the CEO met with President Trump and shared words of praise.
The CEO of Goya Foods admitted Friday he is facing a backlash after praising President Donald Trump at White House event – but said: ‘I’m not apologizing.’
Among those calling for a boycott were Democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and model Chrissy Teigen, an outspoken Trump critic who is also a cookbook author, who tweeted: ‘Don’t care how good the beans taste though. Bye bye.’
Others included Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Hamilton playwright, and former presidential candidate Julian Castro who said Unanue praised someone who villainizes Goya’s customer base.
…
Robert Unanue, Goya CEO and a grandson of the founders, spoke at a Rose Garden event announcing a ‘Hispanic Prosperity Initiative’ on Thursday.
‘We are all truly blessed, at the same time, to have a leader like President Trump who is a builder,’ Unanue said standing at a podium beside Trump.
Almost immediately, #BoycottGoya, #GoyaFoods and #Goyaway began trending on social media platforms like Twitter, with scorn coming seemingly from all directions, including some big political names.
The CEO made clear on Fox & Friends that he is not backing down.
BRIAN KILMEADE: Are you getting a boycott? That’s [what] I heard, because you had the audacity to show up at the president’s invitation and say some positive things about him?
ROBERT UNANUE: Yes, and it’s oppression of speech… You’re allowed to talk good or talk praise to one president but you’re not — when I was called to be part of this commission to aid in economic and educational prosperity and you make a positive comment, all the sudden that’s not acceptable. I’m not apologizing for saying. If you’re called by the President of the United States, you’re going to say, ‘No I’m sorry, I’m busy, no thank you?’ I didn’t say that to the Obamas and I didn’t say that to President Trump.
This idea that we cannot have different political opinions without trying to destroy a person’s livelihood has GOT TO STOP!
Maybe Unanue’s boldness will embolden other Hispanics to voice their opposition to the Democratic party line.
When will there be an Independence Day for Hispanic and black people from the Democratic Party? The party takes them for granted and does not serve their interests. The Democrats thrive on racial tension and division.
Goya Foods CEO won't apologize in face of boycott, backlash for pro-Trump remarks: 'Suppression of speech' // Bob Unanue sets a good example in the fight against liberal terrorism. Don’t let his voice be suppressed. Stand up against these thugs. #BuyGoya https://t.co/5TmFnsPmcP

FIGHT THE CANCEL CULTURE! I'm buying every can of Goya food I can find this weekend. "Goya CEO praises Trump at White House, backlash is swift" https://t.co/NFlTMsBAjh via @ABC7NY

Representative Luis Gutierrez of Illinois is among the big names calling for a boycott. How can he support the boycott of the largest Hispanic-owned business in the country?! Apparently it’s a betrayal to Hispanic heritage to not be a Democrat.
After the CEO of Goya Foods praised @realDonaldTrump I will no longer be buying their products as they betray their once loyal Latino consumers. Join me in taking a stand as a consumer and boycotting Goya. #Goyaway pic.twitter.com/iYEAH0S01Y

Oh look, it’s the sound of me Googling “how to make your own Adobo” https://t.co/YOScAcyAnC

He is absolutely allowed to support trump! And we are absolutely allowed to call him the fuck out. https://t.co/1td71QFVQd

.@GoyaFoods has been a staple of so many Latino households for generations.
Now their CEO, Bob Unanue, is praising a president who villainizes and maliciously attacks Latinos for political gain. Americans should think twice before buying their products. #Goyaway https://t.co/lZDQlK6TcU

We have to support people like Unanue who have the guts to stand up to the mob. That is no small task. But every time someone folds under the pressure of the mob, the mob becomes bolder and more empowered.
