The Oakland Unified School District voted to eliminate its own police force at a school board meeting Wednesday night.

Extremists win again.

From Breitbart:

The San Jose Mercury News reported:

In an unanimous vote, the board passed the “George Floyd Resolution to Eliminate Oakland Schools Police Department.” The annual $2.5 million spent on the 10 sworn officers and police administrators is instead expected to be redirected toward other student support services and restorative justice efforts.

Superintendent Kyla Johnson-Trammell has from August until Dec. 31 to build a new alternative safety plan, which will include input from a committee of community members and other stakeholders.

Of the nearly 30 speakers who addressed the board Wednesday, all were in favor of the elimination of the police force. Some spoke about how black and brown students can feel dehumanized, disrespected and generally not safe with having police on campus. Others urged the board to set an example for the nation in their act of removing police.

The organization Black Organizing Project helped craft and bring the resolution to the board. Jessica Black, its organizing director, addressed the board about the importance of the resolution and her organization’s fight for the last 10 year[s] to remove the police from schools.

The George Floyd Resolution. Isn’t that cute?

This is very confusing. The leftists the past couple have weeks have tried to tell us sane people that defunding the police does not mean we disband them. Defund the police only means we reduce their budget and reallocate money to social service programs. This, of course, makes no sense. When we conservatives say defund Planned Parenthood, we mean, defund them. Take away their funding.

The Oakland Unified School District acted in a manner consistent with the plain meaning of word defund. Bye bye school police.

This is worrisome and makes kids at school less safe. Sadly, the school board and members of the community will likely come to regret this decision when there is increased violence, drugs, or shootings at school.

Unfortunately, these liberals live in fantasy world. They think that all problems can be solved with counselors, social workers, and “restorative justice coordinators.” I am not against having any of these professionals in the schools. However, that can be done while keeping the police. The school district will now lose all 10 of their armed police and all 50 unarmed security guards.

I hate that schools have to have police and security, but it’s a necessary evil in this day and age. These people are naive, clearly do not understand the human condition, and will come to regret this decision.
