In a new video, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez informs viewers that she has just discovered the existence of a common kitchen feature: A garbage disposal.
AOC, who recently moved into a luxury apartment complex in D.C.’s Navy Yard area, posted a video about the “terrifying” feature she discovered.
“OK everyone I need your help because I just moved into this apartment a few months ago and I just flipped a switch and it made that noise and it scared the daylights out of me,” AOC said.
“I am told this is a garbage disposal. I’ve never seen a garbage disposal. I never had one in any place I’ve ever lived,” she added.
Garbage disposals were illegal in New York City until 1997, partly because they didn’t believe the city’s aged sewer system could take it.
Predictably, AOC immediately wondered about the environmental impacts of garbage disposals and asked if they were “environmentally sound.”
“This DC apartment is bougie and has things I’ve never seen before…” she continued. “Is this what social mobility is? Using kitchen appliances you never saw growing up?”
