Please tell me this is #FakeNews. PLEASE.
Apparently, “insiders” say that President Trump is considering firing Defense Secretary James Mattis after the midterm elections. I know, I know. Who are these “insiders”? How do we know we can trust them?
Well…we don’t.
Citing information from several anonymous Department of Defense officials, the New York Times on Saturday described the deteriorating relationship between Trump and the former Marine general.
The officials claimed that the president is frustrated by the fact that Mattis has frequently been described as the Trump administration’s ‘adult in the room’.
They also said Trump has expressed fears that Mattis is a Democrat ‘at heart’ and noted how he recently changed the defense secretary’s nickname from ‘Mad Dog’ – which Mattis despises – to ‘Moderate Dog’.
You don’t know how bad I want this to be untrue.
According to the report, Mattis and Trump have had disagreements on the “Iran nuclear deal, NATO strategy, military exercises in South Korea and banning transgender people from serving in the military.”
Tensions between the pair escalated following the release of Bob Woodward’s bombshell book ‘Fear’ last week, which quotes Mattis comparing Trump to a child.
Woodward writes that the defense secretary had told colleagues Trump was acting like a ‘fifth or sixth grader’ during during a nuclear standoff with North Korea last January.
Mattis denied ever having made the remark.
Both can’t be true. If he never said that and Trump KNOWS the book is bull, why would tensions increase? What’s the truth here?
The report notes that Lindsey Graham is among those Trump would consider picking to replace Mattis. How bizarre is that?
I really hope this is #FakeNews.
Le sigh.
