Willie Nelson Agrees To Headline A Fundraiser For Ted Cruz’s Challenger

Sorry Texas. Willie Nelson is getting political. He’s agreed to headline an event for Ted Cruz’s challenger, Beto O’Rourke.

Ugh. What a bummer.

After bringing Beto O’Rourke onstage during his Fourth of July Picnic this summer, Willie Nelson is doubling down on his support of the U.S. Senate candidate, headlining a rally and concert set for Sept. 29 at Auditorium Shores.

Also on the bill are Joe Ely, Carrie Rodriguez, Tameca Jones, and Nelson’s sons Lukas and Micah Nelson. An initial report of Leon Bridges being on the bill is unconfirmed, Nelson’s publicist said Wednesday evening.

“My wife Annie and I have met and spoken with Beto and we share his concern for the direction things are headed,” Nelson said. “Beto embodies what is special about Texas, an energy and an integrity that is completely genuine.”

WILLIE. Are you dumb? Beto embodies what’s special about Texas? We’re talking about the man who 1.) Basically called for a nationwide gun ban and 2.) Suggested that kneeling during the national anthem is one of the “most American” things you can do.

Step OFF, Willie.
