As you know, Sarah Sanders tweeted about how some insufferable a-holes made her leave their restaurant.
Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for @POTUS and I politely left. Her actions say far more about her than about me. I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so

The owner doubled down, and the “bake the CAKE!” crowd is incomprehensibly giddy about it:

Personally?
I DON’T think anyone should be forced to serve anyone they don’t want to in their private business.
I also don’t think they should be free from suffering ANY repercussions from that decision.
If a baker decides they don’t want to serve gay people, then those who disagree with that decision can choose not to go there… which may negatively affect their business.
Same with Conservatives. I think a restaurant owner should be ALLOWED not to serve Conservatives… and I want to know who they are, so that I make sure I never, ever, EVER spend my money there.
Anyyyyyway. Someone found a way to turn this whole thing into Sarah’s fault. Because OF COURSE THEY DID.
Sarah Sanders’ use of her official government Twitter account to criticize a restaurant for asking her to leave is a ‘clear violation’ of federal ethics laws, a top former government watchdog charges.
Surely this “Top former government watchdog” is ENTIRELY unbiased and doesn’t have a huge chip on his shoulder about the Trump administration, right?
Walter Shaub, who was the director of Office of Government Ethics for five years, wrote on Twitter that the White House press secretary violated federal rules by using her official account for her personal beef with the Red Hen restaurant.
‘Sarah, I know you don’t care even a tiny little bit about the ethics rules, but using your official account for this is a clear violation of 5 CFR 2635.702(a),’ he tweeted on Saturday.
I’m sorry… but I have a hard time taking anything about “ethics” seriously for a guy who worked under Obama.
Shaub was referring to a section of the law that says government employees can’t use their public position for private gain.
Uhhh… what “gain”?
‘It’s the same as if an ATF agent pulled out his badge when a restaurant tried to throw him/her out,’ Shaub explained.
The @PressSec account Sanders used is one that White House press secretaries pass on to one another as holders of the position change.
It’s COERCION, y’all.
Shaub also explained Sanders’ tweet could be interpreted as coercion.
‘Sanders used her official govt account to condemn a private business for personal reasons. Seeks to coerce business by using her office to get public to pressure it,’ he wrote.
Coerce them into what? Feeding her? Yeeeeah… no.
That section of government code forbids an employee from using ‘his public office for his own private gain, for the endorsement of any product, service or enterprise.’
A government staffer also cannot use ‘his public office in a manner that is intended to coerce or induce another, including a subordinate, to provide any benefit, financial or otherwise,’ the code reads.
Also, staff cannot use their title or position to ‘endorse any product, service or enterprise.’
Another day, another case of “How can we turn this into a HUGE FREAKING DEAL?!”
