Trey Gowdy Actually Defends The FBI From #SpyGate Claims

This caught a lot of people by surprise.

Rep. Trey Gowdy recently attended the Justice Department briefing on President Trump’s “SpyGate” allegations and spoke a bit about it on Fox News.

Gowdy actually said that FBI director Chris Wray and Deputy A.G. Rod Rosenstein confirmed to him that Trump was never the specific target for “surveillance. He went as far as saying that he’s “convinced” that the FBI did exactly what it was supposed to do.

“I think defensive briefings are done a lot, and why the Comey FBI didn’t do it I don’t know, but Chris Wray and Rod Rosenstein have at least made it clear to us, Donald Trump was never the target of the investigation and he is not the target of the investigation,” he continued. “Keep in mind, that can all change based on testimony from a witness. But, for now, I think Chris Wray and Rod Rosenstein are stunned when people think Trump is the subject of their investigation. I’ll leave it up to them for how to brief the president and his lawyers.”

“Was that point of view that you’re talking about right now strengthened when you went into this briefing last week?” McCallum asked.

“Yes. I am even more convinced that the FBI did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do when they got the information they got, and that it has nothing to do with Donald Trump,” he said.

A lot of people weren’t expecting that take. Some on the right are now accusing him of being in bed with the Deep State.

I stopped being a @TGowdySC fan some time ago when it became apparent that he is all hat and no cattle with regard to results. With his latest support for Deep State operations, I'm thankful that we in SC will be represented by somebody else soon.
