A Horrifying Ski Lift Malfunction Sends Skiiers Flying At Georgia Resort

I’m sure there are people out there who will disagree with me on this – I have several in my family, for starters – but I don’t understand why anyone would want to do a sport where you go hurling down a mountain on sticks in the snow.

(PS – I’m a warm-weather sport girl.  And I like things that go in forward motion.  You’ll understand what I’m talking about in a second.)

I mean, it’s like someone says to herself, “Hey there perfectly stable, warm, and healthy Self…you know what sounds like a barrel of fun?  Freezing my a$$ off, flinging myself down this slippery mountain to my possible death, and spending waaaaay too much money doing it in super puffy clothes and hideous science goggles.”

Nope.

I know, I know.  Some of y’all LOOOOOVE skiing. I’m sure I’ll hear about how great it is for your quads, too.  (Squats and lunges can be done in your living room.  FYI.)

And then there’s the LIFT.  As if the heights of the mountains weren’t bad enough on their own, they make you get on lifts without any safety-anything on them, so you can fall out at anytime, OR in the case of this resort in Georgia – you can go flying out of them at warp speed.  BACKWARDS.

It’s absolutely horrifying, and it’s my worst nightmare, when skiiers from a ski lift at a resort in north-east Georgia were thrown “after it malfunctioned, leaving ten people with minor injuries.

Skiers were being transported down a hill at the Gudauri resort, located on the plateau of The Greater Caucasus Mountain Range in the former Soviet republic, when the out of control lift suddenly began picking up speed.

Several people were injured, but thankfully, no one was critically hurt:

“Only two cases need to be monitored,” he added. “One of the injured, a Ukrainian citizen, broke his hand during the incident, and has a small head injury, while a Swedish citizen is pregnant and feels pain in her waist.”

Holy cow, there was a PREGNANT WOMAN ON THE LIFT.  SKIING.  And hurt now.  Ugh.

I’m beyond grateful no one was seriously hurt, and it’s official.  If I ever end up road-tripping to a ski destination?  I’ll be the girl either at the spa or enjoying warm drinks at the lodge the entire time.

Because nope.
