Pop singer Lorde has been INUNDATED with messages to cancel her concert in HORRIBLE TERRIBLE ISRAEL.
Yes, really.
Pop singer Lorde is ‘considering’ cancelling a show in Israel after fans urged her to boycott the country.
The 21-year-old New Zealander had been inundated with messages on social media calling on her to abandon a gig in Tel Aviv next year.
But when two women wrote an open letter to her requesting she not endorse the ‘apartheid state’ which treats occupied Palestine with ‘brutality’, Lorde responded on Twitter indicating she was uncertain about the show.
Oh dear GOD.
Yup… the Palestinians are lovely peaceful people who aren’t allowed to use Israeli water fountains or live in their neighborhoods, basically.
WRONG.
Are these people THAT brainwashed, or maliciously misleading?!
Lorde, of course, is “learning so much.”
The young star, when sent a link to the letter, wrote: ‘Noted! Been speaking w many people about this and considering all options. Thank u for educating me i am learning all the time too’.
In the letter, Nadia Abu-Shanab and Justine Sachs stressed the need to isolate Israel, which they compared to apartheid South Africa.
Putting forward their identities as a reason to heed their opinions, the Kiwi activists – one of whom is Jewish, the other of whom has Palestinian heritage – wrote to The Spinoff: ‘Today, millions of people stand opposed to the Israeli government’s policies of oppression, ethnic cleansing, human rights violations, occupation and apartheid.
‘As part of this struggle, we believe that an economic, intellectual and artistic boycott is an effective way of speaking out against these crimes. This worked very effectively against apartheid in South Africa, and we hope it can work again.’
They add later: ‘We’ve watched as you’ve used your platform to draw attention to institutional racism, sexism and white privilege. You’ve talked about the need to “stay informed and stay outraged” about the intolerant and discriminatory policies of the Trump administration.
‘We only ask you do the same with the Israeli government.’
After announcing on Monday she will be performing in Tel Aviv as well as St Petersburg and Moscow in Russia, one social media user wrote to Lorde: ‘Very disappointed in you!’
So ridiculous.
I have a feeling boycotting Israel is going to become this generation’s Sun City.
But you know… without anything to actually complain about.
How long until they make a music video about it?
