Last night I told you that actress Heather Lind jumped on the #metoo train by saying President George H.W. Bush “sexually assaulted” her.
Yes. Really.
She wrote a long instragram post detailing her “harrowing” experience.
So…. he touched her butt during a picture.
That’s literally it.
I’m going to come out and say it…. if every 90 year old man in a wheel chair touching a butt is sexual ASSAULT… then nursing homes are RAPE CENTRAL.
If a 90 year old touching your butt traumatizes you… you need to toughen up.
Anyway, President Bush has responded.
Former President George H.W. Bush is the latest person accused of sexual assault.
Actress Heather Lind says she was posing with the wheelchair-bound former Prez back in 2014 when he grabbed her from behind. She says, “I found it disturbing because I recognize the respect ex-presidents are given for having served,” referring to a photo taken a few days ago with the 5 former presidents.
Lind goes on … “But when I got the chance to meet George H.W. Bush four years ago to promote a historical television show I was working on, he sexually assaulted me while I was posing for a similar photo. He didn’t shake my hand. He touched me from behind from his wheelchair with his wife Barbara by his side. He told me a dirty joke.”
Lind says she was actually admonished by security, who told her she shouldn’t have stood next to him.
A spokesperson for Bush responded, “President Bush would never — under any circumstances — intentionally cause anyone distress, and he most sincerely apologizes if his attempt at humor offended Ms. Lind.”
I’m buying it. For one, Barbara was standing RIGHT THERE and according to this woman’s post, kind of rolled her eyes when he did it.
As in: oh, that silly old man.
Honestly, that’s how I would have taken it too.
I take sexual harassment and sexual assault very, VERY seriously… but I also think we need to toughen up and stop acting like every. little. thing. is a traumatizing experience with sexual abuse. It takes away from those who have actually been victimized. If any time a man flirts with you/ looks at you/ makes a dirty joke/ exists is a “violation” … then people are going to stop taking ANYONE seriously…. and that’s a problem.
Strong women aren’t traumatized by a 90 year old touching their butt during a picture. If it bothers them, they tell the old man to cut it out….
This isn’t a traumatizing event. This is someone looking for 15 minutes on the victim train.
