Philadelphia Redesigned The Rainbow Pride Flag To Include LGBTQ “People Of Color”

And the Oppression Olympics continue!

According to this, the city of Philadelphia has “officially” redesigned the rainbow LGBTQ pride flag with an additional brown stripe and a black stripe in order to “recognize” that LGBTQ people of color exist. Because… we needed to be made aware that such people live and work among us? I mean, I kind of already figured that black people and Hispanics and Asians and members of other racial identity groups could come out as gay or lesbian or whatever (Look, guys – I’ve been on Tumblr. I know how this works. The more census box categories you can shoehorn into your personal identity, the more unique and different you are and the more oppression privilege you can claim for yourself).

But apparently the rainbow flag wasn’t rainbow-y enough for some people. Thus, the new version of the pride flag –

The flag was unveiled at a recent Pride Month kick-off event in Philadelphia as part of a new campaign, More Color More Pride, which aims to recognize nonwhite LGBT communities as part of the broader pride movement, starting with the most visible and widely-recognized symbol of the LGBT community.
The campaign was developed by Tierney, a local ad agency that worked with Philadelphia’s Office of LGBT Affairs, where [Amber] Hikes is the executive director.
Hikes said she shed a tear when the flag was raised last week for the first time. Others at the event had similar reactions. To the best of Hikes’ knowledge, Philadelphia is the first city to publicly and symbolically recognize racial discrimination within the LGBT community.
“To see this at City Hall is such a profound statement,” Hikes told CNN.

Here’s a clue: If you have a super-special flag that recognizes your super-special-snowflake status and there is a major American city that is recognizing just how much of a super-special-snowflake you are… YOU’RE NOT OPPRESSED! You are, in fact, the exact opposite of oppressed. You’ve got your own freaking parades and publicly-funded safe spaces and nobody can so much as look at you crossed-eyed without some self-righteous politician or pop star starting a Twitter hashtag campaign in your defense. You might even get a prime time news interview.

I don’t know how many ways we have to say that it’s not that big of a deal that there are gay people in the world or even gay people belonging to different racial groups, but I’m tired of talking about it. I’m even more tired of these people with their laundry list of sub-group identities screaming at me about how I’m oppressing them with my Christian white cis-hetero identity, when I haven’t even met half of these whiny people in person and I wouldn’t know about their sexual preferences if I passed them on the street. And even if I had, I still wouldn’t give a crap about who they want to sleep with or form a lasting relationship with. Just stop shoving it in my face every time I turn around.

Oh, but I forget. Our politically correct culture is obsessed with sex and sexuality (as long as it’s not heterosexual sex or even monogamous sex, because that’s akin to slavery or something), so I’m just an oppressive prude for not wanting to know about everyone’s sexual habits all the time.

Well, if that’s the case, I’ll gladly take it.
