NFL Player Kneels During The National Anthem, Because Donald Trump Won The Election

We’re at the point where people will sit/kneel for the National Anthem for virtually any reason. Upset over our “racist” and “sexist” society? Kneel for the National Anthem. Mad at your sister? Kneel for the National Anthem. Barista gives you the wrong coffee? Kneel for the National Anthem. Upset over the outcome of the presidential election? Kneel for the National Anthem.

That last one actually happened.

Mike Evans of the Buccaneers knelt during the National Anthem Sunday to protest Donald Trump’s surprise victory.

“I don’t want to, you know, disrespect the veterans or anything,” Evans said. “The men and women who serve this country, I’m forever indebted to them. But the things that’s been going on in America lately, I’m not going to stand for that. When Ashton Kutcher comes out and says we’ve been punked, then I’ll stand again. But I won’t stand anymore.”

That’s his reason. He doesn’t like Donald Trump, so those who’ve fought for what the flag represents don’t deserve his respect.

“I said this a long time ago,” Evans continued. “When [Trump] ran, I thought it was a joke, and the joke continues. I’m not a political person that much, but I got common sense. And I know when something’s not right.”

Well, maybe you should become a political person. Maybe then you’d understand the Trump phenomenon. Maybe you should read up on the issues that drove millions of people to the polls. Maybe then you’d realize how idiotic it is to react by protesting the National Anthem.

The Buccaneers released the following statement after the game:

“The Buccaneers are deeply committed to the military and honoring the great men and women that have dedicated their lives and have made great sacrifices to insure all the tremendous freedoms we have in this great country.”

 

“We encourage all members of our organization to respectfully honor our flag during the playing of the National Anthem.”

 

“We also recognize every individual’s constitutional right to freedom of speech, which is crucial to the American principles we cherish.”

Obviously, Evans has every right to kneel for the National Anthem, but it’s still beyond stupid.
