If you’re like me, you’re tired of leftists wracked with white guilt trying to push their white guilt onto other people. The latest and most timely of these grievances is Halloween costumes that are supposedly racist or culturally appropriative. Like, we’re not allowed to appreciate other cultures – their food, their traditional dress, their music, their style, the things that makes people of other cultures interesting to us. Take your pick.
And the funny thing is that people from other cultures really don’t seem to care about it. Their feelings are rarely – if ever – hurt. It’s just the left projecting their outrage onto other people and telling them what they should feel. Like they can’t speak for themselves.
Tell me who’s the racist again?
Which is why I ADORE this exchange that was had on Tumblr some time ago. It started with a picture of a little girl who is clearly NOT Japanese dressed in a kimono and traditional Geisha makeup having a Japanese tea party –
It didn’t take long for the Cult of Social Justice to come in with their preachy nonsense about how This Is Wrong and Teach Your Children Not To Appreciate Other Cultures, You Racist –
Spoopy-Roxxi: Teach children that this is not ok
Ginzers: Teach children that there’s nothing wrong with this.
Spoopy-Roxxi: I’m really not understanding why you think cultural appropriation would be ok, unless you are assuming the girl in the picture is part Japanese.
Good point, Spoopy-Roxxi. Why are you assuming the girl isn’t part Japanese?
Ginzers: Yellow face yet she’s using white makeup in the traditional style but okay.
Cultural appropriation isn’t a thing, hon. 🙂 Cultures should be shared by all means.
Spoopy-Roxxi: I disagree. The makeup is clearly reflective of traditional Geisha makeup which is yellowface and therefore racist. Furthermore, the girl is wearing a kimono, a garment that has for ages carried cultural significance. Assuming that she is white [There you go assuming again] how can you think this is ok? And cultural appropriation isn’t a thing? What rock do you live under? I suggest you educate yourself on the differences between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation.
Wow. Sounds like Spoopy-Roxxi needs to understand what cultural appreciation is.
But the best part? The person that this Social Justice Zealot was arguing with turned out to be Actually Japanese and told them to stuff it –
Ginzers: I am Japanese, in Japan at this very moment. The only people who think culture shouldn’t be shared are racists like you.
A vast majority of Japanese people actually enjoy other people making an effort to spread and enjoy Japanese culture, and encourage it. Many make businesses in deliberately taking pictures of people in kimono. A common ominage (gift) for foreigners from Japanese people is traditional Japanese things such as kimonos, tea seats, shisa dog statues, ect.
And to top it off, basically 80 percet of Japanese customs, traditions, and food came from other countries. Japanese is an integration of different cultures, like America. Japan takes influences from places like Korea, China, Russia, and Europe. If Japan stuck to itself, there would be no tempura, Japanese tea, tea ceremonies, kabuki, Japanese bread, Japanese curry, J-Pop, anime, cars, or modern fishing techniques. The picture is not “yellow face,” they are not making fun of Asians. In fact, it looks like they put extra care and research into their work.
The only reason that you have a problem with this is because that little girl is white and you that it is acceptable on Tumblr to crap all over white people. The only racist here is you.
This is so very necessary –
After hearing all about insane garbage like what’s going on at UMass and elsewhere, it’s SO GREAT to hear someone explain the difference between making fun of a culture, and appreciating it. Cultural appreciation happens more often than anything offensive or demeaning. But, like Ginzers said – it’s okay to dump on white people guilty of nothing more than enjoying another culture. So long as it’s a white person committing such a crime.
Sounds like it’s just white guilt liberals in America that want to keep us all from appreciating other cultures. And I don’t need their permission for ANYTHING.
