MSNBC Reporter Actually Admitted How Journalists Feel About Donald Trump

I’m choosing to laugh at this MSNBC reporter’s analysis of the Charlie Sykes interview with Donald Trump. Because if I find it funny, I’m less inclined to get mad and punch the wall.

If you haven’t heard, a conservative radio host in Wisconsin named Charlie Sykes interviewed Donald Trump ahead of that state’s primary election next week. And he was pretty brutal (by mainstream media standards, anyway). He called Trump out for how he speaks to and about women, for his bullying tactics, and just general incivility. This interview is significant because – to this point – NOBODY has questioned Donald Trump this much or this intensely. Even Megyn Kelly, who tough questioning at the Fox News debate led to Donald Trump picking a very public and very disgusting fight with her, didn’t go that far. Trump is becoming on par with Hillary Clinton as far as the media treating him with kid gloves, but for different reasons. The media doesn’t want to push him too much for fear of angering him and then they get dragged into a nasty, knock-down, drag-out feud.

I didn’t expect anyone in the media to actually ADMIT this, though. Even more surprising, the admission came from MSNBC.

MSNBC reporter Tony Dokoupil interviewed Charlie Sykes about having Donald Trump on the radio and here he shares his analysis with Lawrence O’Donnell. And the whole time he’s talking about how Sykes could afford to be tough on Trump because he won’t ever have to interview him again, I’m just thinking – “DUDE, do you even journalist????” Apparently, O’Donnell felt the same way –

This is why I can’t stand the majority of the media in this country. Journalism’s not about getting honest information out to the public. It’s about furthering your career, getting the best ratings, being the rock star reporter/anchor. And this whole Donald Trump phenomenon has been a gold mine of ratings for the news media. They keep him going and keep him in the news – that’s why there’s all this focus on his fights with Megyn Kelly and Carly Fiorina and Ted Cruz and whoever else has upset the King. That’s why we’re getting serious analysis about the freaking NATIONAL ENQUIRER, of all things (What’s next? Bill O’Reilly doing a straight-faced report about Elvis giving birth to Sasquatch after having been impregnated by a UFO?)

Trump is a master celebrity. He’s an entertainer. He’s a reality show star. He knows how to play to the camera. He gives an audience what they want. But that’s as far as it goes. If you think he’s actually going to be a decent president when it comes to governing and making the tough decisions, you are out of your mind. It’s the same thing with Hillary Clinton – she also knows how to work a crowd and whip her followers and the media (but I repeat myself) into a frenzy. She weasels out of answering for her questionable activity and they let her do it. Because she is the political version of a reality show star.

Basically, this election is going to come down to choosing between the equivalent of Kanye West or Kim Kardashian. Let’s be honest here.
