Saudi Arabia Would Like Everyone To Stop Comparing Them To ISIS, Please And Thank You

According to this, a poet in Saudi Arabia is set to be executed for renouncing his Islamic faith. And because Saudi Arabia is under Islamic law and apostatizing from Islam carries the death penalty (Islamic law is just awesome that way).

The man’s sentence has drawn criticism from the international community – everyone from human rights groups to random people on Twitter have said that Saudi Arabia’s basically acting like ISIS by doing this. And Saudi officials haven’t looked too kindly on public opinion – so much so that they’re threatening to sue Twitter users who say that this sentence is “ISIS-like” –

“The justice ministry will sue the person who described … the sentencing of a man to death for apostasy as being `Isis-like’,” a justice ministry source told newspaper Al-Riyadh.

The Kingdom is yet to identify the potential Twitter user, or specify a possible penalty.

“Questioning the fairness of the courts is to question the justice of the Kingdom and its judicial system based on Islamic law, which guarantees rights and ensures human dignity”, the source seemingly told the pro-government newspaper.

They claimed the Kingdom’s courts would not hesitate to put on trial “any media that slandered the religious judiciary of the Kingdom”.

It might be unfair to compare Saudi Arabia to ISIS – seeing as ISIS has executed countless of thousands of people for not being Muslim and Saudi Arabia has only executed 152 people this year for Islam-related crimes (ahem – “only”). Maybe it would be better to say that ISIS is Saudi Arabia on steroids. Thing is, Saudi Arabia is a recognized government and ISIS is just a bunch of thugs operating as if they’re a recognized government. But they’re going to enforce their will on anyone who doesn’t follow their demands, whether the world likes it or not.
