Biden Calls Tyre Nichols “Tyler” Because He Doesn’t Really Know What’s Going On

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre insisted that this State of the Union speech was very much authored by President (in name only) Joe Biden. I find that hard to believe because he doesn’t seem to really know what’s going on. He’s trying hard to follow along with what’s been written for him to say, but he struggles with important details, like names, because he lacks an internalized understanding of what’s actually happening. This time, it was Memphis police beating victim Tyre Nichols who became “Tyler,” right in front of Tyre’s own parents.

This reminds me a lot of last June when he incorrectly called Asian civil rights activist Karen Narasaki “Karen Nagasaki.”
