The United Kingdom’s Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) is advising the government “that the primary course COVID-19 vaccination should move, over the course of 2023, towards a more targeted offer during vaccination campaigns to protect those persons at higher risk of severe COVID-19.” To that end, they are winding down their COVID “emergency response” protocol of a “universal” COVID vaccine program, where 16-49 year olds could get 3 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines, but plan to encourage the elderly to get boosted in the fall.
Starting on February 12th, healthy individuals aged 16-49 will not be able to get a booster shot unless recommended by a medical professional based on being in a “clinical risk group.”
I can barely believe it, but it seems that the UK will now prioritize vaccinating the elderly, sick, and individuals otherwise most vulnerable to COVID-19 rather than pushing every healthy person to get injected with something they might not even need. Y’all, this is how it should have always been. The elderly, sick, and otherwise vulnerable individuals should have been prioritized, and healthy people should have been left to make their own choices based on personal risk assessment like they do every single day of their lives for numerous other situations.
