Trey Ganem is an artist who owns SoulShine Industries, a company that creates custom caskets, and he has offered his services (usually priced over $3,000) to the Uvalde shooting victims and their families for free.
There is no easy way to bury a child, but laying them to rest in a casket that celebrates their unique personalities is something that can make it just that tiny bit more doable. And Ganem’s generous effort was supported by other workers every step of the way:
A shortage of child-sized caskets at Ganem’s Edna-based business forced him to order from a manufacturer in Griffin, Ga., nearly 900 miles away.
After the manufacturer worked 20 straight hours to ensure an on-time delivery, Ganem said a trucking company drove for over 24 hours to pick up the caskets and bring them back to his shop.
Looking at these absolutely breaks my heart. The artwork is so cheerful, so innocent, so full of youthful energy. These are pictures for children, and children should not be in caskets.
I know I speak for all the Chicks– and all of you, our beloved readers, as well– when I say we wish all possible comfort to the families affected by the needless massacre at Robb Elementary and many blessings on Trey Ganem for the kindness he is showing.
The work Ganem is doing is unbelievably generous and beautiful in spirit. It’s also work no one should have to do.
