I have a genuine question after reading this article, and I’m hoping someone can help me out.
So according to Reuters, Planned Parenthood will, in conjunction with Emily’s List and NARAL, spend $150 million on this year’s midterm elections, in order to “aggressively respond to the unprecedented attacks on sexual and reproductive rights and abortion rights across the country and raise voters’ awareness of the lawmakers who are to blame.”
According to this, taxpayers (i.e. you and me) contributed $618 million to Planned Parenthood in 2019. I don’t know about you, but I have no interest in funding abortions, and yet I apparently have no choice in the matter. Neither do you. The government takes our money and spends it on whatever they’d like. And I get it, that works both ways. Lots of people hate giving their tax money to fight wars, for example. They hate paying for a strong defense, and yet, they have no choice about how the government uses their money.
But here’s what I don’t get. If Planned Parenthood gets that much money annually from taxpayers, how is it OK for them to turn around and use that money to CAMPAIGN for Democrats and Democrat causes? Does this happen with conservative organizations? I’m genuinely asking. Are there conservative organizations that get that kind of taxpayer contribution annually and then turn around and use that money to campaign for conservative campaigns?
I gotta tell you – that seems shady AF. And I cannot fathom why it’s legal. Happy to entertain explanations if you have them, please and thank you.
