According to this, a ritzy hoity-toity elite prep school in Manhattan has seen some parents, including Megyn Kelly, remove their kids altogether, while still others are expressing deep frustration as a result of the leak of an anti-racist program ostensibly about to be implemented at the school.
An 8-page memo to faculty/staff was leaked out, and now the parents who pay over FIFTY FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR to send their kids to the Dalton School are starting to wonder if it’s worth it. (It’s not.)
Keep in mind – this school hasn’t even had in-person classes since MARCH. That alone would have been enough for me to pull my kids. Why pay nearly 55k per year for zoom classes? NOPE.
But back to the leaked memo. YOU GUYS. It’s absolutely insane. One parent of a child at the school, Scott C. Johnston, has a blog called The Naked Dollar blog, and that parent posted the memo. It’s signed by 129 faculty and staff, and it includes proposals like hiring 12, YES TWELVE, dedicated diversity officers, and also eliminating AP classes altogether if black kids weren’t scoring as well as white kids.
Johnston wrote, about the proposal, “It’s not an exaggeration to say these demands, if implemented, would destroy Dalton altogether. The demands for additional staffers alone would add millions of dollars to Dalton’s annual budget. Siphoning off 50% of donations would dry up funding. Eliminating AP classes (referred to as ‘leveled courses’) would destroy college admissions.”
You can read the entire memo at the sourcelink, but here are some highlights:
1. The hiring of twelve full time diversity officers and an additional full time employee whose ‘entire role is to support Black students who come forward with complaints.’
2. Hiring of multiple psychologists with ‘specialization on the psychological issues affecting ethnic minority populations.’
3. Paying off the student debt of incoming black faculty
4. Re-route 50 percent of all donations to NYC public schools
5. Eliminate AP courses if black students don’t score as high as white
6. Overhaul entire curriculum and add required courses ‘that explicitly center Black liberation and challenges to white supremacy’
7. Reduce tuition for black students whose photographs appear in school promotional materials
8. Require public ‘anti-racism’ statements from all employees annually
9. Mandatory ‘Community and Diversity Days’ to be held ‘throughout the year’
10. Required anti-bias training to be conducted every year for all staff and parent volunteers
11. Mandatory minority representation in (otherwise elected) student leadership roles
12. Mandatory diversity plot lines in school plays
It’s absolute lunacy, and it goes without saying that those are actually TOTALLY RACIST POLICIES.
Aside from the obvious insanity of these proposals, the other big problem is that there are too many parents who are afraid to rock the boat who are refusing to speak openly about how dumb this all is.
Some spoke to the NY Post but refused to do so on the record because they’re spineless morons who care more about clout than their kids’ exposure to this bullsh*t. One such parent said, “This supposed anti-racist agenda is asking everyone to look at black kids and treat them differently because of the color of their skin. The school is more focused on virtue-signaling this nonsense than it is in actually helping students of color. More parents are going to be pulling their kids out.”
Another parent told the NY Post, “Parents are terrified to speak up for fear of retribution. Parents are acting like spineless wimps.”
YA THINK?
A few months ago, when a petition signed by more than 70 lower-school parents went around demanding the return to in-person classes, the petition ITSELF was called racist because minority faculty were more likely to have to take public transit to get to work. I’m not even making this up.
The school now says that everyone’s expected to return to in person classes after winter break, so I guess that’s something.
In response to the controversy about the above-referenced anti-racism proposals, Dalton released a statement which said that it was just a “set of thought-starters created last summer by a group of faculty and staff responding to Dalton’s commitment to becoming an anti-racist institution.”
They went on to say that the school, “does not support all the language or actions it contains” and that Dalton’s “commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism is grounded in our deep appreciation for the dignity of all community members, an understanding of differing life backgrounds, empathy for one another, and the ability to engage and listen with respect across differences.”
Here’s the thing. It’s gonna take parents with Actual Brains to push back against all of this anti-racism nonsense which does nothing but divide people by race EVEN FURTHER. It’s going to take people pulling their kids out of schools like Dalton, like Megyn Kelly did, so that the schools begin to take the financial hit and realize that normal people don’t want this kind of indoctrination for their kids. And it’s going to take strong, normal, rational people to start up prep-schools that have a zero-tolerance policy for this kind of crap. You wanna be woke? I guess stick with Dalton. But there must be options beyond the social justice bullsh*t.
