BREAKING: Governor Gavin Newsom Signs Law Allowing Transgender Inmates To Be Housed By Gender Identity

ABC News is reporting California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed into law a bill that requires prisons to house trans people in the prisons on the basis of their gender identify rather than their biological sex.

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law on Saturday requiring California to house transgender inmates in prisons based on their gender identity — but only if the state does not have “management or security concerns.”

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation houses men and women in separate facilities. Transgender inmates are often housed based on their sex assigned at birth. Advocates say this is dangerous, particularly for transgender women housed in facilities for men.

Dangerous for transgender women??? What about the actual women in the prison who will now be housed with a biological male? Think that might be dangerous for them? How much do you want to bet that there will be an uptick in men identifying as women and requesting transfers to women’s prisons?

Here is how the ridiculous process will work under the newly signed law:

The law Newsom signed Saturday says officers must ask inmates privately during the intake process if they identify as transgender, nonbinary or intersex. Those inmates can then request to be placed in a facility that houses either men or women.

The law says the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation cannot deny those requests solely because of inmates’ anatomy, sexual orientation or “a factor present” among other inmates at the facility.

But the state can deny those requests if it has “management or security concerns.” If a request is denied, the state must give the inmate a written statement explaining the decision and give the inmate a “meaningful opportunity” to object.

Way to open yourself up to tons of lawsuits, California! I can see transgender people who are denied suing the state. I can see women raped by men who identify as women suing the state. This policy is a disaster in the making.

The ABC piece noted that trans woman and convicted felon, Michelle Calvin, is grateful for the new law.

“It means a lot to me and my sisters,” said Michelle Calvin, a transgender woman incarcerated at Mule Creek State Prison who recently called in to a news conference about the bill. “I’ve been in for 15 years. I’ve been through the abuse, I’ve been through the disrespect of staff not addressing me for who I am because I am a woman.”

I’m sorry, but I really don’t care what “means a lot” to a prisoner. Michelle Calvin is currently serving a LIFE SENTENCE in prison. An NBC News feature piece on Michelle Calvin revealed her crime.

Calvin, 48, who is serving a life sentence for robbery and carjacking, said she has fought off three rape attempts by fellow prisoners. The first time, in 2015, she said her cellmate hit her so hard she slammed into the cell’s door. When she reported the assault, she was told there wasn’t enough evidence to substantiate it, she said.

Fearing for her safety and feeling out of place, Calvin has requested a transfer to a women’s prison.

“I asked to go to a women’s prison, because I am a woman,” Calvin said.

I wonder about the trauma of the person who was carjacked robbed? I bet you they suffered some emotional trauma. If you want to pick and choose what people you live with, then don’t commit crimes!

The insanity in California continues. It seems as though the lunge ever more leftward is unstoppable.
