Coronavirus Is Quickly Becoming A Political Hit Job On Trump

The Coronavirus is spreading not only in the number of infected persons but also the hysteria that a threat of a global epidemic can bring.

The Dow has dropped significantly this week in response to shortages in global trade. People have stopped flying to countries that show signs of increased infection.

Italy canceled their Venice festival in the wake of increased coronavirus infections, and their correct worry that the festival will spread fast in large groups of people.

The Democrats wasted no time taking this virus and turning it into a political hit job on Donald Trump and the way he is dealing with the virus. They are claiming that Trump taking funding from the CDC to build the border wall will cause the epidemic to become uncontrollable.

Trump’s administration has stated that they have been monitoring the situation closely and have it under control.

Alex Azar, Health and Human Services Secretary, went before the House Appropriations Subcommittee this morning to discuss the President’s 2021 budget regarding Health and Human Services.

Rep. Rosa DeLauro is the first to set the stage for the eventual political drama.

Rep DeLauro: “I want to start with a matter of urgency, the novel coronavirus Covid-19. Cases are growing as is alarm, this is both domestically and internationally. The US government has responded to the COVID-19 outbreak with aggressive measures; significant travel restrictions and mandatory 14-day quarantine for individuals returning the US from the Hubei province. Mr. Secretary, I support your declaration of a public health emergency. We are dealing with the likelihood of a global pandemic.”

DeLauro should have stopped there and committed to giving the monetary help this unforeseen situation. The Democrats, however, cannot help themselves and pounce on the idea of making this virus political.

DeLauro continues: “I have serious concerns about the Administration’s responsiveness with respect to funding.”

The Democrats are trying to push the idea that Donald Trump has asked for the money a little too late. That although he has done all the right things with quarantining infected and possibly infected persons, asking for the money came too late in their minds.

Whether this is true or not, is beside the point because the Democrats would have claimed he was over-reacting if Trump’s administration had asked for a single penny a month ago.

DeLauro uses this as a chance to bring up asylum seekers. What does the Trump administration’s policy on asylum seekers have anything to do with the coronavirus, you ask?

DeLauro: “Another important issue that I like many Americans find deeply disturbing, is the Administrations ongoing and cruel treatment of asylum seekers and children entering the United States. In recent weeks we learned the agents with ICE are showing up at HHS funded shelters to fingerprint 14-year-olds in the unaccompanied children program. That is outrageous. They are allowing ICE agents to intimidate kids. I recognize that there is a statute, but it remains the responsibility of HHS to ensure the safest environment for the children.”

If you are following this, the coronavirus has nothing to do with 14-year-olds in the unaccompanied children program. They believe that Trump asked for money too late, and ICE is scaring kids by getting fingerprints. Democrats do not care about the risk of coronavirus spreading. They want to spread their false narrative and start another planned attack against our President.

Rep. Cole stood up for the President and his administration on his handling the coronavirus and securing the border. He thanked Alex Azar and his department for coming and using the money allotted immediately with the help of the “Infectious Disease Rapid Response Fund.”

Azar also mentioned the fact that they have come back for supplemental money to help continue to fight this disease. He says that what he has heard from other people in the governing body is just a “transparently political claptrap.”

Rep. Cole: “When I hear you criticized by people, that in many cases didn’t vote for the bills that gave you the tools, then I regard that as political as opposed to substantive.”

Now pay attention here because this is where Cole becomes the greatest defender.

Rep Cole: “The last point I want to make on this is, I really appreciate the briefings that we’ve gotten. Congress as a whole has gotten. You’ve had your representatives here before this committee. Our chairman did a wonderful job in bringing in folks. We had an honest and open dialogue. So, the idea that we haven’t been kept well informed or people have not said ‘look we are going to do our very best but this an unpredictable disease this could spread at any time.’ These are not warnings that I just heard in the last 24 hours. These are things that your team has been telling us from the very beginning. It suggests to me that the Administration has been on top of this and again I appreciate the President in that regard, from the very beginning.”

Instead of taking this seriously, Rep. Mark Pocan cared more about whether Jared Kushner was going to appointed coronavirus czar. If the praise from Rep. Cole is accurately describing the job being done by HHS, and Trump’s administration, then at the time a coronavirus czar is not currently needed.

If the time comes, and the HHS and Trump’s administration deem it necessary there will be a czar appointed.

I have so many feelings about this man and what he did regarding using the coronavirus as a political talking point, but I will keep those to myself. You can watch the entire committee meeting here.
