Back when Ruth Bader Ginsburg was undergoing surgery to remove cancerous growths from her lungs, I had VERY strong feelings against people who made nasty comments wishing ger ill. (And I saw A LOT of them)
While I do not agree with her politics, I respect and value who she is, and what she’s done. Think of it this way: She was best friends with ANTONIN SCALIA. He is my Conservative IDOL. If Scalia respected her integrity and character, who am I to say I don’t?
For a woman of her age to have accomplished what Ruth has accomplished is truly exceptional. Despite my differing political opinions, I will never refute that. She is inspirational in many ways. Again… If SCALIA had the respect and love for her he did… who are you to say Conservatives can’t have respect for her? I do.
I feel that if we ever had a conversation, she’d respect the fact that I’ve stood firm in my own beliefs, and that as a woman, I’ve created my own path.
Anyway – I smacked down ALL kinds of people who had something mean to say about her. SURE, I want her to retire, but I don’t want ANY harm to come to her. I’m just not that person.
And after hearing about this, I’m really glad I stood by that.
According to Fox News:
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Wednesday night defended Associate Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch as “very decent” and “very smart” individuals after one of her former law clerks suggested that new nominees lack personal decency.
Ginsburg’s comments turned heads on social media, given the contentious and bitterly personal confirmation hearings last year that Kavanaugh said “destroyed” his family.
At an hourlong question-and-answer session, Duke Law professor Neil Siegel lamented that “nominees for the Supreme Court are not chosen primarily anymore for independence, legal ability, personal decency, and I wonder if that’s a loss for all of us.”
Ginsburg shot back, “My two newest colleagues are very decent, very smart individuals.” The exchange was first reported by The National Review.
Good for her. Smack that nonsense DOWN, Ruth.
This isn’t the first time, either:
It wasn’t the first time that the court’s liberal lion defended Kavanaugh. Earlier this month, at a series of events, Ginsburg, 86, praised him for being the first justice to hire an all-female team of law clerks.
“Justice Kavanaugh made history by bringing on board an all-female law clerk crew,” Ginsburg said at an event in New York. “Thanks to his selections, the court has this term, for the first time ever, more women than men serving as law clerks.”
Can you imagine anyone else on the Left pointing this out?
Very, very few.
You just KNOW Scalia is looking down and smiling at his old friend.
