UPDATE About The New Commenting System

Hey y’all! Hope you’re getting comfortable with the new commenting system. I have a few updates about it.

Yesterday a whole bunch of comments were getting published but then auto-deleted due to some really strict moderation settings. I think that’s now been fixed. HOWEVER, please use the following guidelines when it comes to commenting in general:

1. Try not to be an a$$hole. I know that’s especially difficult for some of you, but please just try. That includes trying to cut down on the expletives, which I saw a LOT of in the moderation queue, which is why so many comments disappeared. Can y’all just use some well-placed asterisks or words that are more palatable to the general user? Pretty please? For me?

2. You should now be able to post pics, gifs, and links. But as I think I’ve mentioned to a few of you before, don’t be a pest about it. If you’re a person that posts more memes than Actual Words as comments, you should know that most people want to punch you in the face, and that if it gets REALLY out of control, you’ll be warned about it, and could face being banned. If I get emails from people complaining about you doing that a lot, then that tells me there’s an issue, and then I start paying closer attention, and then I get irritated. And y’all don’t want that.  In the words of the great Bill Bixby:

3. PLEASE help us out, and if you are seeing consistent abuse from someone in particular, send us an email to [email protected]. We don’t have the bandwidth to check every comment in every post every day, and we rely on y’all to help us moderate to some degree by letting us know what’s up. If there’s someone who’s commenting who’s being a persistent jerk, let us know.

4. If you dish it out, be prepared to take it just as hard. Our community gets passionate. In other words, don’t be a jerk and expect that people aren’t going to be jerks back. That’s life. And we’re pretty tolerant of it UP TO A POINT. If you see a fight getting out of control, please refer to point #3 above.

Finally, it’s never a good idea to criticize us in our own house. Helpful feedback and civil debate? Great. Bitchy comments about how we write, look, run our site, etc? You’re gone. You might get a warning or two if we’re in a good mood. But yeah. Don’t piss off the hosts of the party. It’s as simple as that.

Hopefully, y’all are liking the new format. We do! Still working out a few kinks, but hopefully this platform will serve us all well. Thanks for your patience as we’ve been getting it sorted out!
