As I mentioned a few days back, the founder of the Women’s March has called for the march’s co-chairs, including Linda Sarsour, to step down given their REPEATED and FLAMING anti-Semitic words and actions.
GOOD. But this is WAY too little, WAY too late. We’ve been writing about Sarsour’s bigotry for a long, LONG time.
Well, it looks like Linda didn’t take it too well, because she’s issued some kind of pathetic apology:
Wow. An apology to Jews from Linda Sarsour via Women’s March: “We should have been faster and clearer in helping people understand our values and our commitment to fighting anti-semitism. We regret that. We are deeply sorry for the harm we have caused.” https://t.co/PuTwfUsrK5 pic.twitter.com/pQSWGGjhTs

The letter reads:

UMMM.
That’s not an apology. That’s not even taking accountability for her own words and actions.
It’s basically “we’re sorry you thought I was mean. I’m not. But sorry you thought that.”
She’s getting called out for it.
I think you seem desperate to give her and her co-chairs an out. This is “sorry you misunderstood us” – it isn’t an apology or a signal anything will change. Done out of fear because, with celebrities jumping in, they finally lost control of the narrative.

Where is the denunciation of Farrakhan and her apology for pushing the dual loyalty trope? This does not meet the minimum standards of the required apology.

I look forward to Sarsour acknowledging Israel’s right to exist and tirelessly encouraging Muslims worldwide to do the same. Until that happens, forgive my skepticism.

PS
I’m confused— @lsarsour released 2 statements today: one formal, and one on Facebook. The first is a genuine apology letter, the 2nd is jarring defense of her work. Something doesn’t add up. pic.twitter.com/Vm9gW095cz

In @lsarsour’s Facebook post she returns to her old tricks of deflection and refuses to acknowledge the hurt she’s caused for Jews and LGBTQ folk. Either she didn’t write the formal letter, or she was insincere. Regardless, it’s a bad look. https://t.co/qlA8EoiicO

You’re done, Sarsour.
But nice try.
