UPDATE: More details have now emerged and are available here.
A few days ago I wrote about a tourist who was killed after being punched in the face by a man he THOUGHT was his Uber driver.
Sander Szabo apparently walked up to a car he thought was his Uber, banged on the window, and got knocked out cold by the angry driver.
He hit his head on the pavement, causing traumatic brain injuries that eventually led to his death.
The driver immediately fled the scene, and police have been searching for him ever since.
Well… he’s been identified.
…as an assistant basketball coach at Wake Forest University.
According to Daily Mail:
An assistant basketball coach at Wake Forest University has been charged in the deadly assault of a Florida tourist who was punched in the face and later died of his injuries at hospital.
Jones and his attorney walked into the 114th Precinct in Astoria, Queens where the coach turned himself in.
Not necessarily because it was an “honorable” …but rather because NYPD released footage of him AND his car. It was only a matter of time before someone identified him, if he hadn’t been already.
He has been charged with assault, though investigators say the charge could be upgraded depending on the results of an autopsy.
This is awful.
