FINALLY. An Overweight Superhero! We Can All Die Happy Now.

I’m assuming that fighting crime and flying and superhero stuff like that would burn a lot of calories.

Saving the day is an EXCELLENT workout…Which is why it makes sense to me that superheroes would be in excellent shape.

I mean…  I don’t see many overweight Olympians.

Is it because the Olympics hates fat people? NO. It’s because being overweight makes it pretty hard to be a world-class athlete. (Or alternately… because being a world-class athlete makes it pretty hard to be overweight.)

But whatever. We need to be doing more to promote obesity or something, so here we go:

Now – Before anyone screams at me (someone will) I need to clarify that I have no problem with people that are overweight. Your weight does NOT determine your value as a human being. Your body is simply a tool. Additionally, I don’t even think this “Faith” lady looks all that big from those drawings. Maybe that’s a very flattering super-suit she’s wearing. Who knows. That’s not the point.

The point is I DO have an issue with promoting the notion that being overweight is “normal” or even desirable.

Yes – in America being overweight IS normal – but not because it’s a GOOD THING. “AVERAGE” does not mean “HEALTHY” just like having the “average” IQ of a Democrat doesn’t make you smart.

We are facing a CHILDHOOD OBESITY EPIDEMIC. Now is not the time to promote obesity.

It’s that simple. Yes, children SHOULD be taught to love themselves no matter what. It’s what’s inside that counts. They should also be encouraged to take care of their bodies.

Taking care of your body is part of loving yourself.

Regardless, “Fat Superhero: The Movie” is gonna be a thing. You know. Because “acceptance and diversity.”

According to Daily Wire: 

Adding some apparently much-needed “diversity” to the superhero film line-up, Sony has decided to move ahead with a new flick featuring a plus-size female lead, “a live action adaptation of the Valiant Comics superhero story Faith,” reports Deadline.

American Gods writer Maria Melnik has been signed to write the film, which will star superhero Faith Herbert, “a jubilant, comics-and-science-fiction loving geek who also happens to have telekinetic superpowers.”

“Faith marks a step forward toward making spandex characters more inclusive, since the men are almost always well muscled and the women model thin,” praises the outlet.

Spandex characters NEED to be more inclusive, y’all. SPANDEX FOR EVERYONE.

In 1992, the character first appeared as a member of the Harbinger team. “She is able to fly and has the ability to levitate other objects in her ‘companion field.’ She also doesn’t brood like most superheroes; she’s a pretty effervescent young woman,” notes Deadline.

In the current series starring Faith, which is written by Jody Houser, the lead moves to Los Angeles, where she holds a secret identity as a reporter.​

So is this movie going to be realistic about the struggles people face when overweight?

Is Faith going to huff and puff as she dashes towards the bad guy? I’m not being rude here. I say this from experience. In my life I’ve been both in really great shape and in really awful shape. I know first hand that simple tasks like climbing stairs can be a lot more difficult on your body when you’re not in good physical condition. That’s not mean. That’s just reality.

Is her doctor going to mention she really needs to watch her cholesterol levels and that her chances of heart failure would be significantly decreased if she improves her diet?

Or are they going to gloss over ALL OF THAT and just act like there’s nothing to see here?

I’m pretty sure I already know the answer.
