The bleeding hearts. The pearl clutching. The feigned outrage and horror at what’s happening at our border right now. You guys – it’s making me so cynical, and I don’t really wanna be that person. But when freaking Rachel Maddow loses her sh*t over a report about children being separated from families because they crossed our border illegally, and when she was nowhere to be found when the EXACT SAME THING WAS HAPPENING under Obama, I find myself feeling more and more irritated about the left’s reaction to all of this than I feel compassionate for the lawbreakers.
And don’t get me wrong – I don’t like what I’m seeing – no one likes seeing kids separated from their families in any circumstances. But when parents commit a crime, that’s kinda what happens. It happens when any parent is arrested for any crime in any situation in our country, every single day. The kids don’t go trotting off to jail with them, you guys. They are separated. It’s how the justice system works.
BEHOLD: Rachel Maddow completely breaking down.
Here’s what she was trying to read:
Trump administration officials have been sending babies and other young children forcibly separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border to at least three “tender age” shelters in South Texas, The Associated Press has learned.
Lawyers and medical providers who have visited the Rio Grande Valley shelters described play rooms of crying preschool-age children in crisis. The government also plans to open a fourth shelter to house hundreds of young migrant children in Houston, where city leaders denounced the move Tuesday.
Since the White House announced its zero tolerance policy in early May, more than 2,300 children have been taken from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border, resulting in a new influx of young children requiring government care. The government has faced withering critiques over images of some of the children in cages inside U.S. Border Patrol processing stations.
I find liberal elites’ brand new concern about children fascinating, given that this has been happening for years. There is plenty of documented evidence, including photos, of the same kind of family separation taking place under the Obama administration at that link.
So spare us, Rachel. Spare us the ridiculous crocodile tears.
And you know what? Our side doesn’t get a pass on this either. Did you get a load of Corey Lewandowski’s reaction to the story of a 10 year old with Downs’ being separated from his mom?
“Womp womp?” Seriously?
Look – the mom of that kid was wrong to break the law. She is accountable. And at the same time, Corey’s reaction is just heartless.
We can dislike the way the process currently works AND SIMULTANEOUSLY understand why it’s happening. We can also look to Congress to do something to change the law and policies associated with it. They are dropping the ball on this BIG TIME. And for people who are saying, “But, but, but…Trump can just undo this with a pen!!” Really? A pen will just magically create family detention centers that accommodate everyone and allow for the most effective processing without any additional funding? He can do that all by himself? Well, if that’s the case, why didn’t Obama do it? And more importantly, why didn’t anyone care that this was happening BEFORE TRUMP WAS PRESIDENT?
If you’re outraged now, and you weren’t then? Then your opinion is utterly meaningless.
