Devin Nunes Moving To Hold Attorney General Jeff Sessions In Contempt Of Congress

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes told “Fox & Friends” Sunday that he’s making moves to hold Attorney General Jeff Sessions in contempt of Congress. This is due to the constant frustration of having his requests for crucial information constantly ignored by the Justice Department.

In particular the committee has been looking into allegations of FISA surveillance abuses that led to the government spying on former Trump campaign aide Carter Page.

Two weeks ago, Nunes he sent a classified letter to Sessions, which he said was not acknowledged. That was followed by a subpoena last week.

A few days ago, Nunes discovered that the Justice Department won’t be complying with the subpoena either.

“Then on Thursday we discovered that they are not going to comply with our subpoena,” Nunes said.

He feels like he’s been left with no choice.

“…the only thing left to do is we have to move quickly to hold the attorney general of the United States in contempt, and that is what I will press for this week,” Nunes stated.

Nunes also said he’s not going to take any “excuse” that relates to concerns about national security. “How many times have we heard this argument throughout this investigation?” he asked.

To be fair, Nunes said there’s a possibility Sessions didn’t even know about the subpoena. (Although he certainly should now that Nunes appeared on Fox and made this threat.)

Rep. Steve Scalise is on board with Nunes’ efforts.

“I strongly support the work that Chairman Nunes and his entire committee have been doing to uncover the truth and hold the Department of Justice accountable,” he stated.

I highly doubt Sessions will actually be held in contempt. I think this is more of a pressure tactic.

We’ll see how it unfolds this week…
