Fantastic news on the pro-life front! Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds– she’s a woman, feminists!– signed a bill, banning abortions after a heartbeat is detected (or after 6 weeks). This is officially the strictest abortion law in the entire nation.
“I believe that all innocent life is precious and sacred, and as governor, I pledged to do everything in my power to protect it. That is what I am doing today,” Reynolds said in a statement. “I understand that not everyone will agree with this decision. But if death is determined when a heart stops beating, then doesn’t a beating heart indicate life? For me, it is immoral to stop an innocent beating heart. For me, it is sickening to sell fetal body parts. For me, my faith leads me to protect every Iowan, no matter how small.”
“I understand and anticipate that this will likely be challenged in court and that courts may even put a hold on the law until it reaches the Supreme Court,” she continued. “However, this is bigger than just a law. This is about life. I am not going to back down from who I am or what I believe in.”
Backers of the so-called “heartbeat” bill – which didn’t get a single Democratic vote in the Legislature during final passage – expressed hope it could challenge Roe vs. Wade, the landmark 1973 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that established women have a right to terminate pregnancies until a fetus is viable. Conservatives say an influx of right-leaning judicial appointments under President Trump could make it a possibility.
Not a single Democrat voted for the bill, which means not a single Democrat has a problem with killing a baby with a heartbeat.
Predictably, pro-abortion groups are legitimately traumatized and have vowed to sue, sue, SUE.
The bill signing came shortly after the Iowa affiliates of Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union warned that they would sue the governor if she signed the bill, which the Republican-controlled Legislature quickly approved in after-hours votes earlier in the week.
“We will challenge this law with absolutely everything we have on behalf of our patients because Iowa will not go back,” Suzanna de Baca, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, said in a statement.
BREAKING: Iowa’s governor just signed one of the most extreme abortion restrictions in the entire country, banning nearly all abortions in the state.
We will be suing with @PPact to block the law from taking effect.

Yes, @KimReynoldsIA has signed the most restrictive abortion ban in the nation — but it is NOT law. This dangerous, unconstitutional law is not set to go into effect until July 1, and that is only if the courts don’t intervene first.
