‘Suspicious Device’ Spotted At A Florida High School Turns Out To Be A ‘Hoax’

A Florida high school (Titusville High) was evacuated Thursday morning after a custodian discovered a “suspicious device” on campus.

Deputy Chief Todd Hutchinson said the object was found outside one of the buildings on the school’s campus just before 8 a.m., as students were arriving. The school, on Terrier Trail in Titusville, was evacuated and arriving school buses were diverted to other schools, he said.

A bomb squad is investigating the device and also combing the entire building, Hutchinson said.

“The device was clearly designed to simulate an explosive device by whoever found it,” Deputy Chief Todd Hutchinson of the Titusville Police Department said.

What kind of sick freak would leave a realistic device at a school like that?

However, school system leaders described that the devices were made of PVC pipe, wrapped in duct tape.

Hutchinson said a custodian found the devices in a breezeway and field at the school around 8 a.m. right as students were arriving for the day.

Staff called the police, which contacted the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office’s bomb squad. They came on the scene and used a robot to inspect the device, explained police.
