Jake Tapper’s Interview With Roy Moore’s Spox Was A Legit Disaster

Full disclosure. Jesus is my Lord and Savior, but I decided long ago that “but the Bible says” is basically the worst political argument ever. I fully believe that this country is great because God’s hand was upon us. The Judeo-Christian values we were founded on made us great and continue to make us great. But shouting scripture– that’s not how we win. Christianity and conservatism go together like peanut butter and jelly, but you don’t have to be a Christian to be conservative. Common sense stands on its own. I don’t need to thump a Bible in order to explain that tax cuts are a good thing. Get what I’m saying? I’m not into robotic religious rhetoric. I’m not about that, and guess what? Neither is Jesus. He was NEVER about that. In fact, he took issue with the religious people of his day. He called them whitewashed tombs filled with dead man’s bones. That’s pretty gnarly.

That brings me to this. Jake Tapper interviewed Roy Moore’s spokesperson, and holy crap. He came off as an annoying, clueless, religious weirdo.

Take for instance, this exchange.

As a follower of Jesus, let me just say that I’m totally embarrassed by his answer. No. Homosexuality isn’t “normal” and it’s not the proper order of things, but Jesus takes people as they are. This goes for all of us– you don’t get your act together first and THEN seek a relationship with Him. That’s kinda why He came down in the first place. We’re such train wrecks that we cannot do it on our own. But God used screw-ups time and time again. But just shouting, “IT’S A SIN Y’ALL” in a fallen world means nothing. It does NOTHING to advance the argument. That’s my point. You can argue from a common sense standpoint that celebrating abnormal lifestyles is bad for society. Principles are principles.

Also, this is humiliating. The spokesperson said that a Muslim shouldn’t be in Congress because most people swear on the Bible. When Tapper corrected him, he let off the longest blank stare in the history of the world.

Moore’s entire camp is out to make him look even more foolish. I’m totally convinced of that now.
