Madeleine McCann infamously went missing over ten years ago.
Most of you probably remember the whole story, but here’s the Wikipedia recap for those of you who don’t:
Madeleine Beth McCann (born 12 May 2003) disappeared on the evening of 3 May 2007 from her bed in a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, a resort in the Algarve region of Portugal, sparking what one newspaper called “the most heavily reported missing-person case in modern history”. Her whereabouts remain unknown.
Madeleine was on holiday from the UK with her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, her two-year-old twin siblings, and a group of family friends and their children. She and the twins had been left asleep at 20:30 in the ground-floor apartment, while the McCanns and friends dined in a restaurant 55 metres (180 ft) away. The parents checked on the children throughout the evening, until Madeleine’s mother discovered she was missing at 22:00. Over the following weeks, particularly after misinterpreting a British DNA analysis, the Portuguese police came to believe that Madeleine had died in an accident in the apartment, and that her parents had covered it up. The McCanns were given arguido (suspect) status in September 2007, which was lifted when Portugal’s attorney general archived the case in July 2008 because of a lack of evidence.
The parents continued the investigation using private detectives until Scotland Yard opened its own inquiry, Operation Grange, in 2011. The senior investigating officer announced that he was treating the disappearance as “a criminal act by a stranger”, most likely a planned abduction or burglary gone wrong. In 2013 Scotland Yard released e-fit images of men they wanted to trace, including one of a man seen carrying a child toward the beach that night.[9] Shortly after this the Portuguese police reopened their inquiry.[10] Operation Grange was scaled back in 2015, but the remaining detectives continued to pursue a small number of inquiries described in April 2017 as significant.
It’s a truly heartbreaking story.
It’s being dragged up because some chick was joking around with her friends that SHE was McCann… given some coincidental similarities between herself and the missing girl.

Madeleine would be 14 now. This girl is a few years older than that. So no… she’s not her.
It seems pretty obvious to me that this was meant as a silly joke among friends. Maybe tasteless…. but not unlike the private jokes many would make when the whole world isn’t looking.
Her friend “Elizabeth” took screenshots of the texts and tweeted them out for the world to see. Why?… I don’t know. But it goes to show that private jokes should stay PRIVATE for a reason.
The tweet now has over 30,000 retweets, and many are LIVID.
Saw that post and it was just a sick joke by a silly girl that was trying to be funny totally disgusting that they find the death of a child so funny.

Got out of hand serves her right for making a joke out of Madeleine. As this what it as become to her a butt of juvenile jokes at the expense of a 3 yr old disgusting.

There’s A LOT more where that came from, some much worse than this. People are basically calling for this girl’s head.
I honestly think this was little more than a silly joke that was meant for friends. The hate seems like an overreaction to me.
What do you think?
