Recent Events Have ‘Fortified’ Rep. Steve Scalise’s Support For The Second Amendment

After the Congressional baseball shooting– where Rep. Steve Scalise nearly lost his life– Republican lawmakers didn’t back down. They didn’t cower in fear and allow that disgusting psychopath to change their minds on the Second Amendment. I’m still so proud of them for that. The individuals who were there know that guns saved their lives. Guns in the hands of good people are a GOOD thing. Individuals with evil intent will find ways to commit their terrible acts. The best thing we can do is be prepared. The Second Amendment benefits us– the good guys. Not the psychos.

Rep. Steve Scalise knows that. If ANYONE has room to speak out on gun-related violence, it’s him.

He’s still refuses to turn his back on gun rights. He actually said that recent events have “fortified” his support of the Second Amendment.

“I think it’s fortified it, because first of all you’ve got to recognize that when there is a tragedy like this, the first thing we should be thinking about is praying for the people who were injured and doing whatever we can to help them, to help law enforcement,” Scalise told Fox News’ Martha MacCallum.

“We shouldn’t first be thinking of promoting our political agenda. And I think we see too much of that, where people say OK, now you have to have gun control,” he continued. “Well, first of all, look at some of those bills. Those bills wouldn’t have done anything to stop this. I mean, the gunmen actually cleared background checks.”

He said gun control is not the answer. It’s the “wrong way to approach this.”

“To promote some kind of gun control, I think, is the wrong way to approach this,” Scalise said. “And frankly, what I experienced was when there was a shooter, luckily we had Capitol Police with their own guns. Every single day in America, regular citizens that have a passionate belief in the Second Amendment, that have their own guns, use guns every single day to protect themselves against criminals, and those stories never get told or hardly ever get told.”

It’s true. There are SO MANY stories like that, but people are typically attracted to negative news.

“People use guns way more to defend themselves from criminals, than criminals using guns to hurt people,” Scalise added.
